Honda recalls nearly 1.2M vehicles because of safety issue

Honda is issuing a recall for almost 1.2 million vehicles in the United States due to a potential problem where the rear view camera image may not appear on the dashboard screen.

The recall affects specific models, including Odyssey minivans produced between 2018 and 2023, Pilot SUVs manufactured from 2019 to 2022, and Passport SUVs produced from 2019 to 2023.

According to documents released by US safety regulators on Friday, Honda has identified a faulty coaxial cable connector as the root cause of the issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration warns that if the rear view camera image fails to display, it can hinder driver visibility and increase the risk of accidents.

Honda reports receiving around 274,000 warranty claims between May 2017 and June 8. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries associated with this problem.

To rectify the situation, authorized Honda dealers will replace the affected cable harness and install a straightening cover for affected vehicle owners. The necessary repairs will be carried out at no cost to owners, who will be notified via letter starting July 24.
